Brainspotting

What is Brainspotting?
 

Brainspotting is a brain-based therapy based on the hypothesis that specific eye positions designated as “brainspots” activate and access specific areas of the subcortical brain that allow for the reprocessing and releasing of core neurophysiological reactions to trauma-related and other psychological experiences.

 

1. You will choose a situation that is activating in some way. Another option is to choose a state of being (peace) you want to achieve, a general pattern to be released, and your ideal/ what you want to create in your life. You will connect with this situation emotionally and physiologically.

 

2. We will find your Brainspot through an eye placement and an awareness of the corresponding physiological response in your body. This provides access to the first (visual) layer and the third (tactical) layer in the superior colliculi in the subconscious part of the midbrain.

3. You have the option to listen to biolateral sound music. This is an effective means to access the second (auditory) layer in the superior colliculi.

 

4. From here we use mindfulness to process for release and clarity. Sometimes, people are verbal processors; other times, they are internal processors. Either way, your brain starts the healing process and re-routing of the neural pathways to promote healing between brain hemispheres in combination with Brainspotting. This, in turn, brings relief, opens up new expansive ways of thinking, and can increase your intuitive sense.

Who can benefit from Brainspotting? 

Brainspotting is for anyone who has a specific issue in mind that they'd like help with. For example, you may:

​

  • want to accomplish some goals but feel stuck and unsure about how to proceed

  • struggle with imposter syndrome and feel limited or fearful

  • feel stuck in a rut, procrastinating, or uncomfortable

  • self-sabotage and undermine your own success

  • desire a life change and don't know where to start

  • feel stressed, overwhelmed or anxious

  • experience a creative block you need to overcome

  • want to build an executive presence

  • need help in understanding and managing complex relationships

Brainspotting can be used to tackle issues but is also effective for 

“expansion," helping you to be more of who you’re capable of being, maximizing your potential, and translating that into performance.

 

Rates for Brainspotting Sessions:

$180 USD / $250 CAD

Best results occur with weekly or bi-weekly sessions over a period of 6-12 weeks.

Why Ashira?

As a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner, Ashira considers herself a scholar of human behavior, having studied under some of the world’s most exceptional graphologists including Roger Rubin, Barbara Weaver, Sheila Lowe, Michal Naftali and psychotherapists Dr. David Grand and Cynthia Schwartzberg.

She has completed Brainspotting training Phase 1, 2, 3 Masterclass, parts, perinatal trauma, and catastrophic trauma.

As a Certified Brainspotting Consultant, she has assisted in many trainings, including assisting David Grand on Phase 1 and 2 trainings for the Orthodox Jewish Community and for trauma therapists in Israel post-October 7th.

How to prepare for a brainspotting session:

To prepare for a Brainspotting session with Ashira:

 

  1. Set aside enough time for the session

  2. Prepare your biolateral music (instructions below). You'll engage a different part of your brain while it plays during the session. 

  3. Clarify your goals: Reflect on what you hope to achieve or address during the session. Consider specific issues, emotions, or challenges you'd like to explore.

  4. Open communication: Share your expectations and any concerns. Clear communication ensures that you both are on the same page regarding the session's objectives.

  5. Create a safe, private space: Find a quiet and comfortable space for the session where you won't be interrupted. This helps create an environment where you can fully engage in the process.

  6. Mind-Body Connection: Pay attention to your physical and emotional state before the session. This self-awareness can help you better connect with the experiences that may arise during Brainspotting.

  7. Be Open to the Process: Brainspotting often involves allowing your mind to naturally focus on specific points or spots. Be open to whatever thoughts, feelings, or memories may emerge during this process.

  8. Reflect Post-Session: After the session, take some time for self-reflection. Consider journaling your thoughts or experiences and note any insights that may have arisen during the session.

Instructions for music:

Music should be played on a device separate from your computer, using headphones for best results. You will hear me via Zoom and the music via your headphones.

For practitioners seeking consultation or Certification in Brainspotting

As a Brainspotting Consultant, Ashira is a certified Brainspotting practitioner with additional expertise and successfully completed the Brainspotting consultation training program. Brainspotting consultants are qualified to:

  • provide consultation to enhance your professional confidence and creativity and

  • to help you attain certification

 

Rates for Consultation:

Individual – $180 USD / $250 CAD (minimum 6 sessions required for Certification)

Group – $65 USD / $90 CAD per person (for skill growth, support and community building)

Are you ready to become a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner? Here are the requirements:

 

  1. Completion of Brainspotting Phase 1 and 2 training in person or online.

  2. A minimum of six (6) hours (often 8-10 hours) of consultation from a certified consultant or trainer. The last hour includes a formal review of the applicant’s BSP skills, documented on a consultation form.

  3. 50 hours of practice with BSP, each session documented on the session tracking form.

  4. Payment of a $150 certification fee to Brainspotting Trainings, LLC.

  5. Certification to be reviewed and awarded by Brainspotting Trainings, LLC.
